Boyesen Retains Strong Showing in European EMX Championship!
Boyesen Backed Apico Husqvarna Turns the Corner at Matterley Basin!
The weekend started well with a strong lap time during the Timed Qualifying session which saw him finish 12th fastest in his group and transfer into the main races on Sunday. Sunday morning started with the Free Practice and Steven settled into the track and finished with a solid lap time. The first of the Championship races would see Steven start just outside the top 10 and pushing hard on the opening lap to get up to 6th place by the end of the first lap. As the race progressed Steven continued to push forward and work his way up to third position for the remaining laps to take a solid third place finish.

Following a delay earlier in the day the second EMX250 race of the day was rescheduled for the last race of the day, and with light rain now falling the conditions were a lot different to the earlier race. When the gate dropped Steven suffered a bad start and rounded to the first turn outside the top 20 and had to push hard on the opening lap to get into 13th place. Steven continued to charge hard during the early laps and was soon battling at the front of the field in 6th. Once in 6th place Steven closed the gap on the leading group and worked his way into 4th place and behind fellow Brit Adam Sterry. During the final laps the two Brit’s battled hard for third position and changed position a few times but eventually Sterry got the best of Steven.

Overall the two solid results was enough to give Steven second overall on the day behind Adam Sterry and move him up to ninth place in the Championship standings.

Steven Clarke: It’s been a good weekend, in the first race I was about 12th off the start which I thought was a bad start but I rode well and get back to third at the finish just behind Adam and we battled a little on the last lap but he got the better of me. Then in the second race I was way down the field as I came into the first corner which made it really hard with the rain and slippery conditions. After making such a bad start I had to push extremely hard and give it everything that I possibly could for the whole race and worked my way up to 4th with a few laps to go. With a couple of laps to go I was behind Adam and we battled for third and passed each other a couple times but I couldn’t make it stick and didn’t want to throw away to overall. Second overall is a mega result for me and the team after all the controversy at the opening rounds and it was two years ago yesterday (Saturday) that my Grandad passed away and I just want to dedicate this result to him.

Richard Clarke – Team Manager: The second race today was one of the best races I have seen Steven ride in a long while, I won’t say ever as we have been there before. It was a mega ride from 20th place to finish in 4th and to almost get the overall win, if only he could have made the pass stick on Sterry. But it is great to get second overall and be back where we should be on the podium and putting Apico and Husqvarna back at the front of the European races.
